Today, I took a concealed carry permit class. It was enlightening and our instructor, Bob, had some great stories to go along with his points. It was just us women, so it made it even better!
I came home and was inspired by my girls' rooms (the untidiness and unkempt look) to do an impromptu fall cleaning. We did a spring cleaning and it was nice for a while...
I am EXHAUSTED. We did all three rooms with the girls' "help". Sam ended up with a fever and Scarlet petered out once we got to Piper's room. The two youngers wanted to donate some stuff; Piper tried to justify every scrap of paper!
I was reminded of my absolute favorite book, "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. In the chapter labelled, "Experiments", the four girls decide that they want a week without chores. By the end of the week, all things have become helter skelter and they realize that it is easier to do a little each day, rather than try to do it all at once.
Mrs. March says, "Then let me advise you to take up your little burdens again; for though they seem heavy sometimes, they are good for us, and lighten as we learn to carry them. Work is wholesome..."
SO...I advised the girls to try and pick up their rooms before they go to bed or after breakfast each day. Even though it isn't FUN, it is good to keep it picked up!
I also like to think of daily things that I can do each day to keep myself "picked up": prayer, reading the Bible, quiet time, exercise. While I might find them burdensome from time to time, they really will do me good in the end.
What things can you do each day to keep yourself "picked up"?
