The Last Leg Is The Longest, Part Four

#truth

We said good-bye to my mom, sister, grandma and nephews, then headed off to Williams to experience Bearizona & Flagstaff to explore Sunset Crater/Wupatki National Monument. While we had a fantastic time with my family, it was fun to have a mini-adventure with my girls, exploring areas I've never been to!

DAY TEN: Bears, Crackle Barrel and One Day Down

Saying good-bye is always hard, especially at the cabin.

Whoo-hoo! We're ready for some adventures!

Not only did this freak me out slightly, it terrified Scarlet. She almost kept the window up the whole time!

Okay- why a donkey? Because this particular donkey, after he finished rolling around, sat up and farted. We had our windows down, so, of course, we were laughing hysterically! Donkey farts!

We were all but shouting every time we spotted a bear.

This guy ended up staring us down. "Don't make eye contact girls...." I might have been a little concerned.

The girls relished in the fact that they could move around the van freely.

Piper was happy too.

The walk-through part was pretty cool too. Badgers, foxes, javelina, more bears, bobcats, owls. It was awesome.

The winner? Might have been petting this goat. Who knows?!

In the guest shop, they got up and close with an African porcupine named Turbo.

Buster the Bear!

Getting ready to ride the open-air bus as we go through the drive-through portion again.

It was super fun- the driver gave us a lot of information about the animals, fed some of them and I saw a real-life elk!!! (I mean, the bears were super cool and stuff, but the elk....that was crazy.)

We ended our adventure by checking into our hotel, eating at "Crackle Barrel" (per Sam) and swimming in the pool.

DAY ELEVEN: Sunset Crater Volcano, Wupatki Ruins & Headed Home

Hanging out at Sunset Crater National Monument- we checked out the lava flow. It was pretty epic!

The girls were in awe....and they must have forgotten that we have lava flows in Snow Canyon which is right by our house. Hee, hee....it was pretty impressive.

Sunset Crater Volcano- so crazy to think that this little mountain caused so much destruction.

We drove up the road to the Wupatki National Monument to see the ruins. I love Indian ruins- they're fun to look at and think about how they lived back then.

Scarlet said, "This must be where the king stood."

Such an amazing experience. We hope to head back that way again to explore even more of it.

We stopped in Cameron for gas and it was so windy, my bandana, glasses & earrings almost flew off my head!

I didn't see my hair until we got to Jacob's Lake!

Happy to be headed home- only 2 hours left!

Our mini-adventure was so much fun! We had some great discussions about what the Indians thought of when the volcano blew, what they ate and why they left the area. We also talked about the different types of animals that we saw in Bearizona. It really was fun and the best part was that my girls enjoyed every second of it.

And then I came home to this:

Bryce painted our front door my favorite color and I love love LOVE it!!!
