I was so blessed to know this dear man:
(Ron, with our friend Nancy)
His name was Ron Metcalf (he was huge...seriously) and as his wife, Janie, said to me today, "God gave Ron a big body to hold his big heart".
He gave me crap about my hair.
He patted me on the shoulder or gave me a hug after worship.
He had GREAT stories about when he worked in Hollywood.
He was amazing and caring.
He was called the church's bouncer.
He had a "walrus mustache" (according to Piper...who else).
It makes me so sad and hurts my heart to know that Ron is no longer here....but I rejoice in the fact that I know Ron is with Jesus now. He has no pain. Just because I know this doesn't mean that I still won't be sad. Just because I know that we will meet again doesn't make the ache go away.
I am SO honored that I was asked to sing at his upcoming service. I get to honor Ron's memory the best way that I know how. Yet another reason to thank God for the gifts He has blessed me with. I can't cook worth a darn, my knitting is mediocre and I just plain suck at being a housewife. But singing? Yep, I can be proud of that one.
Thank you, Ron, for everything you did. I can't even begin to put into words how much you will be missed.
We'll be seeing you soon.
