Responsibili-tye

(That's my fake Georgia accent coming out.)

Lately, at church, the sermon series has been on responsibility- all kinds of responsibility.

But the ones that have hit home lately are my home and my children. Duh? Yep. Duh.

I'm not a...clean person. Wait, that sounds wrong. I'm clean! I shower (most days)! I meant that I'm horrible at picking up after myself. I suck at it. Seriously. B...he's not very good at it either, which means our house is messier more often than picked up. I remember my papa telling me that it would take less time to put something away than it would be to pick it up off of the floor later. It's true! Ta-da! I can be taught!

I've been trying to be more responsible for my home. I'm not overloading myself by trying to make it look all sparkly and new. Just a few things here and there that I do each day to make a habit. So far...it's been working. We even went on vacation and I still came back and did those few things!

I am a stay-at-home mom, housewife and worship leader. I struggle to maintain a balance for all three. I get paid monetarily for one and emotionally, spiritually, blah blah blah for the others. (I get paid in LOVE, baby!) It is a JOB to take care of the kids, clean my house and plan a schedule for musicians all in one day!

As for my girls, guess what? I'm responsible for them too! And not just "Don't let Billy cross the street!" or "Hold Alice's hand in the parking lot please!" I mean, I'm responsible for how they turn out as adults. How crazy is that? (Sarcasm, folks. It's been around for ages.)

I'm responsible for their growth, physically and spiritually. I'm responsible for teaching them manners, morals and cleanliness. I'm responsible for good habits, bad habits and all the in-between habits. Oh yah, B too, but you know what I mean. I need to take each day for what it is and work with it. Slow to speak! Quick to listen! SLOW TO ANGER! Be kind and discipline with a firm, but gentle hand! Give plenty of hugs and stern talking-to's! Wipe butts (I guess I can't call them bo-bo's anymore since Scarlet calls it a butt)! Brush teeth! Cut hair (me, not Piper)!

It's a lot of work! How did I know that I was going to be signing on for all of this when I said "I do" to B? I didn't. But since I did (and by the way, no regrets peeps), it's my RESPONSIBILI-TYE to take care of it.

I'd better get to steppin' then! I have laundry to fold!
