The Big 'K'

It's been over 30 days since I last blogged. Where have I been? I've been busy, yo!

Me and the girls road-tripped it to AZ after the 4th, brought back my sister for a quick visit and we are just now settling back into a routine....that is only going to last for a week or two.

Why is that, Cassandra?

Well, I'll tell you, dear reader...

Piper is starting kindergarten.

GASP. SHOCK. TEARS.

Yep. I've done all of those too.

Where has the time gone? When did she start using phrases like "Samantha is distracting me" or "As I was saying..."? When did she start drawing dinosaurs that really resembled dinosaurs? Um, where did she even see a dinosaur (seriously raking my mind for that one)?

The fact is, my first-born is about to begin her education and I'm doing it our way. I'm not looking for a debate or insults or attention. Just to be clear, I have researched our options.

We are homeschooling Piper. She is currently enrolled in the Utah Virtual Academy, which uses the K12 curriculum. And I'm excited. Yes, it's more work for me, but this is what Bryce and I have decided. When Piper is older, she'll have more say in her education. I want Piper to know that she can do whatever she wants...and that includes her education. If we have the opportunity to teach her at home, then why not? What else do I have to do?

No, I'm not a teacher nor do I have a degree in education. I went to public school and enjoyed it. I'm not trying to seclude my daughter. But I do have a say in her education. Besides, the only difference between homeschool and a brick&mortar school is this...I'm helping her. I'm not teaching her. I'm helping her. I have nothing against the opinions of my teacher friends. I spoke with the teachers at UTVA and some of them don't want their kids homeschooled. Ironic, right? It's not for everyone. Maybe it won't be for Piper. But I'm going to give it the old college try.

So, back to Miss P and her first day of school: check it- August 27th. I'm freakin' out.
