AI Update #1

Have no idea what I'm talking about??? AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!!!! We didn't have tv in Utah, so I had to cram the last two weeks episodes into my Sunday evening (thanks to Sue). So for me, it has begun!

And we start with the Top 10 men!

Michael Johns: "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac
He's my first pick for the Bottom 2 Thursday night. I like him strictly because he's Australian, but vocally, this song was not for him. He moved the mic over his high notes and sounded like they were uncomfortable for him. It's all about song choice (and you'll hear me say that over and over again).

Jason Castro: "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" by Andy Gibb
I like Jason a lot, but I did agree with Paula; I'd like to see him without his guitar. I'm trying not to be biased because my drummer's nephew is friends with him. Anyhow, he has a unique voice, but he needs to step it up.

Luke Menard: "Killer Queen" by Queen
I don't remember this guy from auditions or Hollywood Week. As Simon would say, he's forgettable. This performance was better than the previous two, but still not awesome. He better watch it. I don't think he's Idol material and will not make it to the Top 12. And will someone agree that he looks like Luke Perry from 90210?

Robbie Carrico: "Hot Blooded" by Foreign
I do not agree with Randy; yes, there are many different types of 'rock', but the way that Robbie performed tonight was definitely one type and he performed it well. No, he wasn't my favorite of the night, but still...I don't think he deserved that comment from Randy.

Danny Noriega: "Superstar" by the Carpenters
It's no surprise; I DON'T like Danny. He just isn't my cup of tea. As a vocalist, he has a pretty good voice, but tonight was not the case. His key was too low; if he would have upped the key at least a whole step, it might have been better. He could end up being the Sanjaya of the group though...

David Hernandez: "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" by The Temptaions
My oh my oh my! David was totally in his element tonight! I knew after his first line that he was going to nail this song! He was my favorite vocalist of the night fo' shizzle! After last week, I wasn't impressed, but keep an eye out for the Top 12; he may just be in it.

Jason Yeager: "Long Train Runnin'" by the Doobie Brothers
Jason is my other pick for the Bottom 2 Thursday night. He's got an okay voice, but I wasn't impressed by tonight's performance. I don't think he's Top 12 material.

Chikezie: "I Believe to My Soul" by Donny Hathaway
I'm not sure if I like him or not; he did a good job tonight (thank goodness there was no orange suit this time...he reminds me of Jennifer Hudson from her stint on AI). We'll see how he does in upcoming weeks. He may think he's smoother than he really is.

David Cook: "All Right Now" by Free
Rock on, brother Lo'! I think he totally rocked the house tonight and his rendition was well done. I think this is the kind of 'rock' that Randy was referring to earlier with Robbie, but edgier is just David's style. It may play for him though like it did with Chris Daughtry. He was my third favorite vocalist of the night. Definitely Top 12.

David Archuleta: "Imagine" by John Lennon
MY BOYFRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I just want to take him home and squeeze him; he's so adorable. He's got a fresh personality...anyways, his voice is seriously mature for a newly 17 year-old. He was amazing tonight. At first, I had my doubts because any slow ballad can be trouble, but man did he pull it off! I predict that he will end up in the Top 3; he could actually win, although honestly, as much as I love him, I don't think a young person should win Idol again. I don't think they're ready, but if he does, I'm totally getting his CD!

Ladies, you're next!

Come On Girls...What's Up?

If it were up to me,

almost all of the girls would go home from AI.

Amanda Overmyer: "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas
Seriously, absolutely horrible. The only time she sounded good is when she was belting out the title line. She's definitely my choice for the Bottom 2 tonight. She's got an interesting voice, but it is only suited for one type of music...and that is not AI material. But I was digging her dance moves.

Alexandrea Lushington: "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago
She has a pretty voice, but was very boring last night. But she is only 17...she has a long way to go. She may go home. And why was she wearing shorts?

Kady Malloy: "Magic Man" by Heart
Again, very boring and not very well done. But I don't remember her from even Hollywood week...I predict her for the Bottom 2. She was terribly off-key during the verses.

Syesha Mercado: "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul
It was really "Me and MR. Jones" last night...again, a pretty voice, but it wasn't a good performance. I know she thinks she did a good job, but she needs to be careful with her song choice because she's close to being gone. The one thing I do like about her though (and this has nothing to do with her voice) is her scarf-wearing; in her hair, around her neck...always fantastic.

Alaina Whitaker: "Hopelessly Devoted to You" from 'Grease'
Pretty voice and it was actually an okay performance. She's not one of my favorites though, but she may end up making it to the Top 12 since everyone else wasn't up to par.

Ramiele Malubay: "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston
Ramiele has a very beautiful, full voice. This song wasn't 100% perfect for her, but she did a good job. She will definitely make it through to the Top 12. I wasn't digging her hair though; what's up with the bangs in the eyes?

Asia'h Epperson: "All By Myself" by Eric Carmen
I LOVE this song...I will always remember LaToya London from Season 3 singing it and I fell in love. But Asia'h, she just didn't pull through with it last night. I like her though, so hopefully she can bring it next week...if she's there.

Kristy Lee Cook: "You're No Good" by Linda Ronstadt
I liked her song last night; as with Ramiele, it wasn't 100% perfect for her, but I think it pulled her through to next week. I loved her shirt and she looked really fantastic.

Carly Smithson: "Crazy on You" by Heart
FANTASTIC! I really love Carly and it's not just because she's from San Diego (wink, wink); she just has a phenomenal voice and charisma. She was cracking me up with repeating, " 'Crazy on You' is my favorite song and I'm glad I got to sing it on American Idol". She's definitely going forward!

Brooke White: "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon
I GUESS she would be my third favorite of the night. I like her because she has a unique voice and she did sing the song well...but it was so low that it just wasn't fantastic. But the judges were drooling over her, so I think she's safe.

So to reiterate:

My Predictions for Tonight:
BOTTOM 2 GUYS:
Michael Johns
Jason Yeager

BOTTOM 2 GIRLS:
Amanda Overmyer
Kady Malloy

I guess we'll see!
